Each topic is the subject of an introductory lecture, emphasizing structure-function correlations. This is followed by a "demonstration" lab, to point out significant features of the specimens. Students are encouraged to bring microscopes to this session and follow along as the material is covered. The afternoon lab session for each topic is an opportunity for students to locate and identify the structures by themselves, with assistance from the instructors. Exercise numbers given below refer to those in the lab manual; some topics have only one exercise assigned and others require more than one to deal with the material adequately.
