OBJECTIVES FOR THIS EXERCISE: After completing the exercises
on cartilage and bone, you should be able to:
- Identify the three types
of cartilage and the cells found in them.
- Identify the major non-cellular components of bone, and the cell types
normally present (other than those in bone marrow).
- Identify osteocytes, osteoblasts, and osteoclasts in microscopic
sections.
- Identify the components of a synovial joint in microscopic
preparations.
- Identify all the cell types of bone.
- Identify periosteum.
- Identify the non-cellular components and structural features of compact and spongy bone.
- Identify different zones in the developing growth plate of endochondral bone.
