Plant Description:

1. Herbaceous, perennial weed growing 3-4 feet high

2. Leaves are opposite, simple, ovate with sharply serrated margins. Leaf blade has
three (3) prominent ribs.

3. Flowers are showy, snow white, small, in composite heads of 10-30 flowers per head.

Toxic Principle:

1. A fat soluble, higher alcohol called tremetol that affects the CNS. It is found in greatest quantity in the leaves and stems

Disease:

1. Affects all classes of livestock

2. Onset time is 2-10 days

3. Disease sometimes known as "trembles"

      a) reluctance to move, slow, sluggish, weakness

      b) stands with feet spread apart, shaking, trembling

      c) may see nausea, vomiting, constipation

      d) acetone (ketone) odor on the breath

Treatment:

1. Milk out lactating animals

2. Give laxatives to correct constipation

3. Administer activated charcoal

4. Correct the ketosis
