Specific Equine Private Practice InformationBack to Equine Private Practice Home Page 1. Equine Track students are required to choose from Virginia-Maryland Private Practices for their core equine private practice clerkship. 2. After choosing a practice for an externship, contact me (Dr. Witonsky) prior to making any contact with the practice. This is to insure that the practice has already been approved by the VMRCVM for participation, to avoid scheduling conflicts, and to make sure the practice does not have any prior requirements. 3. There are 3 forms that you need to take with you to the practice: student evaluation form, practice evaluation form, and equine case log form. 4. Not all practices are compatible with a students area of interest; therefor, some choices may not be beneficial for both the student and the practice. I will help you decide which practices may fall in this category. 5. Some practices have specific requirements for acceptance, such as submission of a resume or even an interview. Others may require that only equine track students apply. Please check these requirements carefully. 6. Some practices are only available for visitation during certain times of the year. This is especially true for neonatology externships. Please check dates when planning your fourth year! In addition, some practices must be contacted only through certain clinicians, so plan well! 7. Remember that you are a guest of the practice and a representative of the VMRCVM during your stay. Anytime that you can offer a helping hand, please do so. Sometimes the little things make all the difference in their evaluation of you! 8. If you run into conflicts while at a practice, please contact me as soon as possible! We want this to be a fun, educational experience. COURSE LEADER: Dr. Sharon Witonsky, DVM Assistant Professor |
